The fourth edition of Kochi Public Transport Day (KPTD) was held on May 4, 2018. As part of the event held to promote public transport, the District Collector of Ernakulam K Mohammed Y Safirulla (IAS) decided to commute by public transport to the Collectorate. The enthusiastic Collector took a bicycle ride from his camp office to the Maharajas College metro station, from there he took a metro ride to Kaloor. Upon reaching Kaloor, the Collector took a bus ride to the Civil Station Bus Terminal. Accompanying him on the ridewere retired IAS officer MP Joseph,EDRAC President Rangadasa Prabhuand CPPR Chairman D Dhanuraj among others.
 
With the support of Aster Medicity, KPTD in association with Kerala Bus Transport Association (KBTA) organized a free medical camp for the private bus personnel and autorickshaw drivers. Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath inaugurated the event at the Rajiv Gandhi Municipal Private Bus Terminal. The MLA emphasised the need for an effective transport system and appreciated the KPTD team for taking the initiative in bringing about a change for the people of Kochi. He also thanked the KPTD team and Aster Medcity Hospital for concerning themselves with the health issues of public transport staff.
Around 150 transport staff were examined at the venue. Apart from the normal check-up routine, the medical camp conducted lung tests, ECG and hearing tests. Special emphasis was given to the above tests as public transport staff are exposed to prolonged hours of air and noise pollution, ultimately resulting in respiratory ailments and hearing impairments.
 
Another event was organised by the Kerala State Vyapari Vyavasayi Samithi (KSVVS) with KMRL. The ‘Sreshta Sanchaari Puruskaaram’ was given to the most frequent travellers in the metro service and the guest of honour for the occasion was DK Sinha, a KMRL official. The awardees for the same are as follows:
  • Below 60 Male: Premachandran
  • Below 60 Female : Anu PT
  • Above 60 Male:  Jojo Jose
  • Above 60 Female: Thankamani Venugopal
