The December edition of Kochi Public Transport Day (KPTD) initiated by city-based think tank Centre for Public Policy Research(CPPR) was held on Friday, 7th December 2018. The students and all staff members of the St. Alberts College commemorated the observance day by using public transport switching from their private vehicles. In the event organized by KMRL (Kochi Metro) and CPPR students and staff members of the college took an oath to promote public transport.

MD of KMRL, Mr. APM Mohammed Hanish IAS inaugurated the observance day and urged the students to use public transport. “The benefits of using public transport is manifold. For a city like Kochi, attracting more people, especially youngsters to use public transport will be crucial in reducing traffic congestion and pollution”, said Ernakulam Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. J Himendranath IPS, during his keynote address.

Dr. M L Joseph, Principal, Dr V S Sadanandan Vice Principal, Dr. J. Jameson, HOD Dept. of Botany of St. Alberts College and Dr D Dhanuraj, Chairman of CPPR, addressed the audience during the formal function.

Kochi Public Transport Day (KPTD) is a yearlong campaign aimed at creating awareness and promoting the use of public transport in the city of Kochi. The overarching ambition is to make Kochi a liveable city, whose backbone is an effective, efficient and affordable public transport system.
